Purpose of the Financial AID Office

United International College participates in Federal and State financial aid programs. The college also offers a number of institutional grants and scholarships to eligible applicants. The Financial Aid Office monitors, implements and coordinates all financial aid programs provided by the US Department of Education, states and United International College.

Under the CARES Act, all schools that participate in the federal student aid programs have been allocated funds to make emergency grants to local students who meet the requirements to receive federal student financial aid for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus (COVID-19). The grants can help cover eligible expenses such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care.

Eligibility Requirements: Emergency Grants are available only to the citizen and permanent resident students who were actively enrolled at United International College as of March 13, 2020, as a full-time student in a program with an in-person component, and who meet the eligibility requirements for receipt of federal student aid funds.

UIC decides the criteria for qualified students to receive a grant, the grant amount, and how and when the grant will be disbursed (paid out) to students. The financial aid representative will send an email to the qualified students to start individual processes to get the aid.

Federal CARES Act funds distribution for UIC Students

To award The Federal CARES Act Student Support, UIC administration and the Financial Aid coordinator use the following process to determine which students receive emergency financial aid grants and how much they receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

  1. Review the EFC of each student, the “Type of Expenses” category selected by the student and the information provided in the “Explanation of How the Funds will be used” field to determine whether the student’s expenses were a direct result of a disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19.
  2. If the “Type of Expenses” category selected and/or the information provided in the “Explanation of How the Funds will be used” field indicates qualifying expenses, the Administration review the amount requested and compare the supporting documentation to determine the amount the student will receive a suitable percentage to ensure that as many eligible students as possible can receive funding.
  3. Once the qualifying expenses and amount are approved, the Administration conducts a review of the student’s college account to confirm the following:
  • Students who are or were enrolled in the 2020 Winter semester/term; and
  • Students who have filed a 2019-2020 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or are eligible to file a 2019-2020 FAFSA; and
