Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 Advisory 2
March 16, 2020

We want you to know that we continue closely monitoring the rapidly evolving situation of the Corona Virus (COVID-19). Please read carefully the following steps we are taking to ensure the safety of our community:

ONLINE INSTRUCTION

Final Exams and Presentations

Final exams are being administered through UIC’s online campus during the week of March 16. Please check your Online Campus for instructions posted by your professors. If you had a final presentation instead of final exam, you will deliver the presentation through the Big Blue Button, which your professor will enable on the day and time of your final. You will only need access to a computer, Internet, a webcam, and headphones. The Big blue button will work using an iPad or iPhone. Please actively monitor your online campus to successfully complete your Winter classes. Big Blue Button Tutorial

Spring Term Begins on March 30

The Spring Term will start on March 30th online through our online campus. Due to the emergency situation, SEVIS has allowed UIC to conduct classes online for international students. UIC believes that in order to stay safe, distance education is our best choice in this moment.

Au Pair Seminar

The Holistic Education Au Pair Continuing Education Course scheduled from April 2-5 will be delivered online. Please contact UIC’s if you don’t have your login information yet to access UIC’s online campus.

UIC’s REMOTE OPERATION

In order to ensure the safety of our UIC community, United international College will continue its operations remotely until further notice. Our phone lines, web chat, and e-mail will be answered as regularly. We will make appointments only when it’s strictly necessary. We are doing all possible efforts to avoid contact to stay safe. All our onsite events such as the networking breakfast and art gallery have been suspended temporarily until further notice as well.

PREVENT

Prevention is very important in this moment. Please make sure that you practice the following:

  • Limit movement in the Community
  • Limit visitors
  • High hygiene
  • Hand washing for 20 seconds with soap
  • Hand sanitizer when you do not have access to hand washing. Please do not substitute water and soap with hand sanitizer. Only use hand sanitizer when you do not have access to water and soap.
  • Cover your Cough
  • Boost your Immunity
  • Avoid crowds larger than 50 people

UIC is constantly being sterilized to ensure your safety. We are also extra cleaning high contact objects such us notebooks and desks

SELF-REPORT

If any of UIC’s students travel to any of the four Warning Level 3 countries (China, Iran, Italy or South Korea), they must self-quarantine and not return to campus for 14 days.

“Following guidance from Governor Ron DeSantis and State Surgeon General Dr., Scott Rivkees, we request that each University take immediate action to request all faculty employees and students who return from travel to China, Iran, Italy, Japan and South Korea to self-quarantine and not return to campus for fourteen days after their return.”

Please be aware that there are risks associated to Cruises and Airplane travel. Most of the people, who have been contaminated with the CoronaVirus-19, were in an airplane or cruise and the CDC categorizes cruise travel on the Warning Level-3. Therefore, we ask all of the students and faculty who have traveled on a cruise to self-quarantine themselves until you have no symptoms.

Please report of any international travel to angelica@uinternational.edu

Also, please know that we have not had any cases of the Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 in any of the students, faculty or staff of UIC.

PLAN OF ACTION IF YOU GET ILL WITH THE CORONAVIRUS

  • If you develop symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath), please contact your healthcare provider. Consider using Telemedicine services such as Teladoc to avoid spreading the virus.
  • Mobile testing station in Miramar Florida National Guard is providing free testing of the Coronavirus. Please note that testing is given priority to high-risk patients such as the elderly or individuals with heart disease, high blood pressure or asthma.
  • CVS Walk-in Clinic, 12401 Miramar Parkway, Miramar, FL 33027. If you do not have health insurance, a CVS Walk-In Clinic could be a great option. You can make an appointment here
  • Self-quarantine for 14 days and follow the CDC Guidelines Return to your activities until directed by your health care provider.

Looking forward to our safety and please continue to monitor your e-mail for ongoing updates.
